The solar park is being developed on two plots. The planning area is located on the north side of Alteveer, in the municipality of Stadskanaal. The area is situated next to a large car recycling yard. The location of the solar park is right on the edge of the Alteveer core. It involves both fallow land and temporary forest that needs to be cleared. This clearing will make the relatively large adjacent car recycling yard visible again. By implementing a solar park, which will be carefully integrated into the landscape (with native vegetation), this will be prevented. Residents are accustomed to a view of greenery, which will be maintained with the implementation of a solar park.

Remarks
The poplar forest in Alteveer will partially disappear to make way for the solar park. The forest was planted in the 1990s to utilize surplus agricultural land. Farmers were given the opportunity to plant fast-growing trees on fallow fields. Of the ten hectares of forest, half will remain to preserve its important ecological value. Elsewhere in Groningen, the remaining five hectares will be replanted with greater biodiversity.
