The area is situated in the rural area along Haarweg in Wageningen. It is located to the west of Wageningen and visible from the N225 Lawickse Allee. Due to the relatively low elevation of the planned area, together with a design that keeps structures as low as possible, it is possible to see over the panels from the road.
Ecological zones will be established for insect hotels and potentially beehives, while an herb-rich grassland will be implemented between the solar panels. Surrounding the park, hedges will be planted with species including silver birch, black alder, common osier, European cranberrybush, spindle tree, dogwood, blackthorn, common buckthorn, and elderberry. The fencing, which might be visible to nearby residents, will be covered with evergreen ivy.
At this solar park, LC Energy, together with Wageningen University, started two research projects. The meteorological study aims to investigate how local cloud cover affects the performance of the solar park. Sensors will be installed behind several solar panels to measure solar radiation. In this way, researchers will assess the impact of weather on solar panel output.
The second study is conducted in collaboration with the Foundation Het Levend Archief, which is dedicated to preserving a variety of endangered plant species. An indigenous herbal mixture from the national seed collection will be sown between rows of solar panels. The foundation will then monitor the spread of these species within the solar park. This knowledge can be utilized in other solar parks that utilize seeds from the foundation.
